Robert Douglas Cunningham WWII

Around 2005, I began recording videos of my grandfather, Douglas Cunningham—my namesake—to preserve the stories he shared with me while I was growing up. Over about three weekends, I collected around five hours of footage, covering his life from how his parents met to various events throughout, including specific stories I wanted to hear again.

From that material, I edited together a two-hour video focused on his graduating college, his service as an officer in World War II through North Ireland, North Africa, and Italy, up to his return home and fairly immediate marriage to my grandmother. I added in his personal photos and some of his favorite music from that era, then made DVDs to give to the family as
a Christmas gift.

The DVDs (and players) are long gone, so in 2020, I digitized it all and set up a website where anyone can access and watch individual chapters whenever they want.
